Our other women's empowerment programs

Women’s empowerment can come in many forms and we have chosen to focus on skill building in various ways:

• English Education -  as a tool to equip women with more confidence and make them more employable, while developing their basic life and language skills. The women we work with come from poor to lower-middle income families and mostly from the Muslim communities. Most have had early marriages and have not yet had the opportunity to pursue their “dream career” in order to raise families. A lot of these women are keen to learn English to enhance their personal growth, increase their self-esteem and confidence, and enable them to become more employable in the future. For many, conversing with our volunteers allows them to practice their spoken English in a warm and friendly environment, enabling growth and development.

• Digital Literacy- With the world evolving, digital literacy has become extremely important and a lot of the women in the community are not fully versed with using computers or digital devices. It is important for them to become more technologically aware, which will help them in their day to day life, and will also enable them to become more employable. Computer skills are really important and we are so excited to have a new computer lab where we are training women to become digitally literate.

• Tailoring / Crochet and Embroidery- A lot of women have a passion and interest to start their own home-based  businesses. By giving them skills in tailoring, embroidery or crochet, we aim to grow their passions, help them develop their skills, and equip them with business skills and creative ideas to become successful entrepreneurs in the future.
